Test beam characterization of sensor prototypes for the CMS Barrel MIP Timing Detector

چکیده
The MIP Timing Detector will provide additional timing capabilities for detection of minimum ionizing particles (MIPs) at CMS during the High Luminosity LHC era, improving event reconstruction and pileup rejection. central portion detector, Barrel Layer (BTL), be instrumented with LYSO:Ce crystals Silicon Photomultipliers (SiPMs) providing a time resolution about 30 ps beginning operation, degrading to 50-60 end detector lifetime as result radiation damage. In this work, we present results obtained using 120 GeV proton beam Fermilab Test Beam Facility measure unirradiated sensors. A proof-of-concept sensor layout proposed barrel region MTD, consisting elongated crystal bars dimensions 3 x 57 mm$^3$ double-ended SiPM readout, is demonstrated. This design provides robust measurement independent impact point along bar. We tested different thickness (2, 3, 4 mm) geometry close reference coupled SiPMs manufactured by Hamamatsu Fondazione Bruno Kessler. various aspects influencing performance such thickness, properties (e.g. photon efficiency), angle are studied. 28 measured MIPs crossing mm thick bar, corresponding an MPV energy deposition 2.6 MeV, 22 4.2 MeV expected in BTL, matching target devices.

CMS will use silicon pixel as its innermost tracking device. Prototypes of these 150 mm square pixels bump bonded to DMILL readout chips were tested at CERN in a pion beam. A silicon telescope consisting of 8 planes of silicon strips was used to interpolate tracks to the position of the pixel detector. Data were taken with the beam at different angles of incidence relative to the pixel sensors....

The first CMS MB2 station, with one RPC and one DT module, has been tested with a muon beam under a high intensity photon flux at the CERN Gamma Irradiation Facility during the Autumn 2001 test. Results on efficiency, rate capability, cluster size and spatial resolution, for the RPC detector, are reported here. Studies with a small percentage of SF6 in the gas mixture, in order to decrease the ...

The silicon pixel detector (SPD) of the ALICE experiment in preparation at the Large Hadron Collider (LHC) at CERN is designed to provide the precise vertex reconstruction needed for measuring heavy flavor production in heavy ion collisions at very high energies and high multiplicity. The SPD forms the innermost part of the Inner Tracking System (ITS) which also includes silicon drift and silic...
متن کاملSensor simulation and position calibration for the CMS pixel detector
In this paper a detailed simulation of irradiated pixel sensors was used to investigate the effects of radiation damage on charge sharing and position determination. The simulation implements a model of radiation damage by including two defect levels with opposite charge states and trapping of charge carriers. We show that charge sharing functions extracted from the simulation can be parameteri...
